Lou Bruska has been a sailor for fifty years. He and his wife, Laurel, bought their first boat in 1978, and started racing. Since 2003 they've been cruising on their Catalina 36 out of Holland, MI.

With 50+ years of sailing experience on the Great Lakes as a racer and a cruiser, and after 15 Chicago-Mac races and countless buoy races, Lou now devotes his time to cruising. He’s a member of the Great Lake Cruising Club and was the chairman of the GLCC's Harbor Reports Committee from 2012 to 2019 and a GLCC Webinar Instructor since 2012. He has covered over 10,000nm cruising the Great Lakes from his home port in Holland, Michigan; for which he is the Port Captain. In 2014 completed 1325 nm round trip to Lake Erie. In 2020 he cruised to Isle Royale in Lake Superior and back. Past cruises included trips to the North Channel, Georgian Bay and multiple cruises along both coasts of Lake Michigan and into Grand Traverse Bay and down the Lake Huron shore.
