Lake Huron is blessed with many wonderful and interesting ports and small towns up and down both the Canadian and Michigan shorelines. The Lake Huron webinar will cover the ports and anchorages surrounding the main lake including the Straits of Mackinac, the east Michigan shore and the west Ontario shore. Updated for 2026, join GLCC Rear Commodore Rob Hillman as he shares his extensive cruising experiences throughout the Lake.
This webinar describes cruising along the Michigan and Canadian shores of Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinac. Participants will get a chance to visit the many quality harbors and boater friendly towns up and down both shorelines. Our presenter, Rob Hillman, will be sharing his 10+ years of cruising experience in this area and his insights on the many great destinations available without traveling great distances or too far from shore. Rob will also be pointing out all of the towns presenting summer festivals along with other special and unique activities of interest cruising boaters.
Meet The Instructor
Craig Murchison
Craig Murchison is a retired Dow Chemical Research Fellow and Past Commodore of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club. He is also active in the Saginaw Bay Power Squadron and serves as GLCC Port Captain for Tawas Bay and Port Austin, on the shores of Lake Huron.
Craig and his wife, Pamela, have extensively cruised the Great Lakes, in particular Lake Huron and it's adjoining North Channel and Georgian Bay, plus are 2011 recipients of the Great Lakes Cruising Club's Admiral Bayfield award for cruising all five Great Lakes. They currently cruise "The Shot Rock", their 42 Cruisers Powerboat.
Rob and Kelly Hillman
Having taken up sailing as a retirement hobby, Rob and his wife, Kelly, enjoy cruising the Great Lakes on their Hunter Legend 40.5, S.V. Windshadow. Typically, they splash in June and return in September. During breaks in cruising, you might find Windshadow tied to a mooring ball in her home port of Presque Isle harbor, where Rob and Kelly serve as GLCC Port Captains. The couple also have experience on the Eastern U.S. coast, the ICW and the Caribbean. Kelly and Rob are now in their 10th season aboard Windshadow and are excited to share their experiences cruising the Great Lakes.
