USCG and Canadian Vessel Safety Equipment Requirements

This is a Free Webinar for all!
Body
Do you know what is the required safety equipment (whether US or Canadian) for your particular boat? Last year, almost 50% of US boats that were first time participants in a complimentary US vessel safety check in Northern Michigan were missing one or more required safety items. Join this free webinar to get updated information on the safety equipment required by the United States Coast Guard and Transport Canada for your boat and dinghy. Safety requirements change from time to time, so listen in to ensure you are prepared for the upcoming boating season and save yourself potential non-compliance fines.

Before the start of the boating season, receive an update on the current United States and Canadian requirements for safety equipment. The presentation will include a discussion of the requirements by boat size and type, provide reminders on some maintenance issues and helpful hints on making the upcoming boating season safer and connect you with resources to obtain a free courtesy vessel safety check.  There will also be a discussion of safety equipment requirements for US boats entering Canadian waters and Canadian boats entering US waters.  Ensuring all safety equipment is on board benefits all passengers in the case of an emergency as well as avoiding potential fines if boarded by the United States Coast Guard or Canadian authorities.

Meet The Instructor

Dee McClure
Dee and her husband Brian make their home in the Grand Traverse Area of Michigan. Dee is an avid sailor with a background in one-design and PHRF racing. Now retired from commercial banking, during Michigan’s short summer she extensively cruises, quite often solo with her pups as “doghands”. She’s cruised Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, Lake Huron and the North Channel. Dee is an active member of the GLCC, most recently co-chairing the 2022 Annual Rendezvous in Mackinaw City and serves as Director of the Club. Recently moving from an Island Packet sailboat to a BackCove 372 powerboat appropriately named “Seaquel”, she fulfills her sailing appetite as crew on the non-profit schooners “Alliance” and “Inland Seas” which introduce school age children to sailing and the science of the Great Lakes. Dee holds a USCG 50 GRT Masters License, is a certified ASA Instructor, teaches boat handling courses and chairs the Vessel Safety Committee for the Grand Traverse Sail and Power Squadron.
